Hi guys. I just got back from a whitetail hunt up in the mountains, and my 2014 F350 CCLB did great. I actually had to chain up on all four corners because of snow and slush being so bad.
After I got home Friday, my wife dropped the bomb on me wondering if we should look at upgrading the 14' to a 19'. Definitely not buying new, but she is thinking that while she is still working we should keep the truck relatively current. We bought the 14' in 2015 when it was 2 years old, and a 19' would also be about 2 years old now.
I know the 2019 has a better turbo, exhaust braking, aluminum body parts making it lighter, probably better headlights and safety features, and I seem to remember some engine component upgrades. I'd also get out of the infamous rear wheel hop issue. Problem is my 14' is a good truck, and I feel like I've gotten through all the bugs that I'd chalk up to being a "friday truck". I've also got the truck modded pretty much how I want her. ARE cap, rear air bags, bilstein shocks, AFE cold air pipe, hard wired big inverter bolted to the front of the rear seat, Sulastic shackles, and new Cooper AT3 tires. I know some of you will think I'm crazy since my wife has more or less given me the green light, but the move up will cost around $20k. Some things I could transfer over from my 14' to the 19'. Of course I'm staying with a diesel.
Get an estimate on the value of your truck. I had a 2013 drw that was perfect and run great. I got an offer that was 2K less than what I had invested in the purchase.
I traded for a 2020 F450 and took everything off of the truck and put it on the new one.
I’ve bought/sold a bunch of vehicles before, and I ran an Nada and KBB on my truck. $39k-$46k, and it’ll go towards the top end for trade in due to condition. Considering trade if they treat me fairly, and I’ll get a tax break for the trade in value. Dealership has a 2019 with 15k miles enroute, and it has all the options I want. Only thing it has that I don’t want is the moonroof. Have that on my 14’, and really didn’t want it again. But, it wouldn’t be a deal breaker. Thanks for your input Senix.
The dealership’s GM even sent me a lettwe while I was hunting saying they needed my 2014. I know that’s just a marketing ploy because I’ve gotten two or three letters before, but the letter said they’d go up to 110% of KBB on my 2014. We’ll see.....
I really like my '12 and as a result it's been the longest I've ever kept a truck and with ~200k miles it still runs and looks extremely good. For some unexplainable reason I've been hesitant on the aluminum body's. I do like the changes in the '21 F150 and expect those improvement to roll into the next Super Duty so I'm holding out.
What ever you do make sure to look underneath for a oil pan leak as that's been a common problem you don't want to inherit.

Your post made me realize I didn’t say I have 61k miles on my truck. Yeah, oil pan leak I’m familiar with....had one on my 2014 fixed. My extended warranty runs out next July too.
Repair costs increased a lot around 80,000 for my 2011 and was a frequent shop visitor with derate issues for several years but I decided to fix the issues, buy a 2017 Fusion for daily and reevaluate in five years. It's around 115,000 now. It's been fine since summer 2018 with the exception of new front brake lines this summer. I too have the truck the way I want it and I don't want to redo any of that currently.
I'm waiting to see what the 2023 brings and if it's a lot of changes, maybe wait for the second year build (2024).
The values of a '19 and the 10 speed in the 20's is reason enough to consider buying a new 20 or 21 truck. I was looking at a '19 when I bought mine and ended up saving money buying new. They were asking dang near new prices for the '19's and I was financing so the interest rates on used vs. new made the payment on the new truck less than the '19. Plus the 10 speed trans and 3rd gen 6.7 was a no brainer. The '19 will be fantastic...I'm not casting any stones. I'm just saying the '20s will blow your mind.

If they offer 110% for the trade in they will make it up on the discount of the new truck. Look at total package and not focus on how much trade in you're getting.
Decided to shoot for a 19' vice a 20' because I'm not too excited about getting first year items (transmission and engine mods). Local dealership had exactly what I was looking for in color and trim, plus, the previous owner added air bags and a leveling kit (sans track bar relocation bracket, which I pointed out). Test drove it, but the deal fell through because they were low balling me on my trade-in. Said my truck was fair condition vice very good, and then offered low end of KBB and NADA prices. I talked frankly about knowing the value of my truck on both systems, and I wasn't dickering on their truck's price because it was very fairly priced. They came up from $38k to $39k, which was about $4k too low. I was hoping they'd be more fair so I could use the tax break of a trade in. Ended up walking away. Too bad, but my truck is fine and is paid for. I could try selling it out right, which I've done for the last 30+ years, but we'll see. That would add about $2k in taxes, and no guarantee of what 2019 would be available on the market at the point. Tomorrow I'll decide whether to test the waters on CL to see if my truck would sell quickly. Right now truck sales seem to be hot. On the other hand, I may just enjoy my 2014. Time will tell.
