I’m familiar with Chevys, they have a (-) in the bottom of the distributor shaft that goes into the oil pump, and whether you put it one way or the other it doesn’t matter. It just spins the oil pump. Why would it matter here?.
🤣 It matters in a Chevy too....😂🤣😅 one tooth off and you're screwed!
On on my last two trucks when the air pump failed it was from a bad bushing and caused a grinding noise. Could the wooshing sound come from the fan being on early because this thermostat is stuck open? Under the hood with a fan running is a definite wooshing sound to my artillery ruined ears.
Certainly not doubting that it could be the other way around, just my experience. Also EllieMae I used TheRightStutt as you suggested on my last intake install and it's working great. Thanks 👍
I guess it could be. Hard to know without being able to hear it over the internet.
I’m glad that worked for you, Sandy. I learned about it from watching Pete’s Garage on YouTube.
Good morning everyone. Thanks for the responses. Much appreciated. Also, Sandy, thank you for your service.
we will see when everything is alll back together how it sounds and feels. Hopefully it will run correctly after replacing the Coolant Temp Sensor. Good thing its right there in the front.
the whooshing sound isn’t the air pump. I hear that noise that’s no big deal. No, at idle the engine sounds normal. When I romp on the throttle I hear whoosh through the intake, like sounds like the motor kinda starves itself for a second while increasing RPMs.
I’ll try to make a video of it. Still with everything fixed, if it’s idling and I put it to the floor, there’s a delay like the motor falls on its face then revs up. Like what I’m saying is even though it’s a conversion van, I should be able to put it in drive and put it to the floor and roast the tires. I would think a 351 would have some *****. But just by the sound of it I doubt this motor has anything near 250 horse. Is it because these are severely emissions controlled?
also just for fun I am gonna do the KOEO AND KOER codes pull to see what the computer sees and will report back

No. A whooshing sound is not normal. Maybe it is a vacuum leak causing a lean stumble?
You could check the crossover pipe that comes from back of heads, Tee's and goes down to 2nd converter, hasn't rusted out somewhere, and that is noise you hear.
