On the doors of my 68 F-100 there is a metallic\felt combination of what was once some sort or gasket or window seal. This is where the glass passes from the door shell to the glass-hole. Can anyone tell me;
1. What is the official name of this part?
2. Is it possible to replace it with new stuff? Seems like a good path for water to flow into the bottom of the doors.
3. How in the blue blazes do you replace this part?
You can get them on this website, and support the folks who provide this free site. Go to the "Parts Shop" button at the top right of the webpage. Click the 48 to 79 Truck Resoration header. Click the Door Seal, Trim and Vent windows heading.
The parts you seek are called anti rattlers and you can buy a kit with all the parts you need, or you can buy individual pieces.
Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea how to change these? Doesn't look like the door comes apart. and with the glass in the way there does nto seem to be much room to work in the slot.
Has anyone installed these before? It would be nice to hear a few warm fuzzy words before I spent my beer tickets.
I believe the door has to be taken apart starting from the inside - arm rest, window crank, then the panel. I don't think it's all that hard, but I am not the expert to help you with this part, although I am sure someone who has done it will chime in...
I think it is called the squeege seal or something like that. I think all you need to remove is the window, but of cource you have to dissemble the door handle, door panel and gain access through the inner door sheetmetal to access the bolts that hold on the window. I need to do the same thing with mine and it won't be that difficult.......I don't think.
Looking at an Obsolete Ford Parts catolog the part is called a window felt channel and they also refer to it as a glass anti-rattler as PWARD stated. You will need to tear almost everything out of the door to get to it. Like Bill said yuo only need to move the window out of the way but most everything else has to come out for that to happen. You should be able to just let the window sit in the bottom of the door and not take it all the way out since the anti-rattler will install from the top. Good luck.
Fortunately these arte the easiest doors to work on and it only takes a few minutes to be in there and have the window loose. If you have your new parts in hand you will see that they just snap in place and the old ones will need to be pried out. Check the condition of your window runs or channels before you order as this would be the ideal time to replace them too.
the door is extremly easy.........I am perty sure your is just the same, you take the arm rest off,then window crank,then the door handle(inner), then remove the trim covering ths screws.take out all screws and rmove metal panel.....and then there a hole there for acces to every thing......when I restored my door I threw all that cardboard crap away and custom..upohlstired the metal panel looks great and feels great all I have left is the anti-rattle so if you do it before me witch I am sure you will cause I need money first let me know how it go's .....Let me know if you need help taking apart the door Email me i have done it one to many time on one to fords...
