I'm replacing the front door glass in my '76 F150 because the old felt that was on there carved them up. I recently parted out the interior of a 75 F250 and took the glass out of it. The driver's side glass was scratched, and the passenger side glass was a different color. Did the factory glass for the 73-79's have a light green tint or were they clear?
And a question for the Parts Guru, where can I buy the door glass? I put a new windshield in my Mercury Tracer last week and asked them about buying door glass and having them install a windshield in my truck. They said their supplier stopped carrying the door glass in '06 but they had the windshield in stock.
I know you can spend an arm and a leg from safelight to get the glass! lol check out the sponsors I am pretty sure dennis carpenter has them, but you might want to double check on that.
to the first question yes you could get a tinted green as an option, I am not sure the years you could, but it was an option at some point in the 73-79 era (maybe all years you could.

Yep, it was an option for '75 but I didn't order it separate. :)
Instead I ordered the "factory A/C package" that included tinted windows
and a bigger radiator, which was cool since I was going to get all three of
those things anyway. :)
The A/C package was the only "package" I ordered, wasn't interested in any
of the others offered and was actually -against- many of them since I saw
them as too-sissy for a pickup. YMMV :)
Ha I know what you mean - the truck the glass came out of was plane jane - no radio, ac, power brakes, power steering, etc. Just a 390 2v, C6, and a Dana rearend. Seems like the 390 2v is pushing the lower limits for a F250!
I checked my Dennis Carpenter catalog - no dice. Nor LMC and Mac's.
I never cared for the green tint. I decided to go with clear just because if I wanted to tint later with a darker tint I could. Also, here in MN the tint law is no more than 20% and the autoglass guy who put in my windshield said that it's possible that the factory tint on sideglass is something like 10%, so if I added the 20% later, that I could get in trouble with Smokey. I've always blown that off in the past, but I guess the Troopers up here are sticklers when it comes to tint.
Here in IL. anything older than a 82 you could paint the windows black if you wanted to but newer than a 82 you can't have any tint on the two front windows at all.

That'd be nice. I really wanted mine 35%. And running somewhat of a performance truck down the street, they probably would use that excuse to pull me over to check. In my area, they look for anything to pull you over.
I know you can get Windshields and back window glass from automotive glass shops, but can you also get the side windows from them?
I checked that already - the one particular show I went to said they checked over 50 of their supplier's warehouses and there wans't any found - they stopped production in 2006.
Since I'm buying all new glass except for the rear sliding glass (which is smoke color) I might as well buy smoke colored glass all the way around. Something about light green tint on an azure blue pickup doesn't sit well with me...
