I second that the Denso is the only way to go, but I too have been in the "what parts store should I gamble on" position in the past. If you must go parts store, I would say pick one that is most common around your new residence and trip to often traveled locations and has a lifetime warranty.

I went with an oreilly Ultima which says, a NEW Mitsubishi starter...so, it'll be suffice. Meantime, ill find a shop to rebuild the other since the new starter is only hitn me for a 10.00 core
..im replacing the existing oem starter in the L99. So, 21yr service i can't complain...seems lately, now that it's cold out in the mornings, it's been acting like a biatch. Finally grabs after a fee key turns. Started showing its face back in mammoth(cold mornings)...

Sometimes you have to look at the long run and see what makes sense for some parts. I don't plan on doing a starter again. My daughter will inherit the Ex some day when I pass. Now batteries I chose the Walmart AGM. Reasonable price, warrantied pretty much everywhere I might be.
If not in the position im in at the moment, I could let truck sit til a CNC Fab starter was delivered but, I'm booked with homes til mid December and the 02 I have, won't work(need ladder rack)
.....not doing the homes today, eff me for tmrw. Now, I have 7 to do to keep on track
