hello i have a 1999 ranger 2.5 auto that has problems moving in reverse and drive. if i put it in first and shift up to drive manually it does fine. before this happened every now and then the o/d light would come on and it would shift hard. everything looks alright and fluid levels are fine. any ideas?
i forgot to mention in reverse and drive it feels like its engaging and it kind of tries to move and in reverse it will move on a flat surface at higher rpms
Good idea to have begun a new thread, so you get answers just for your problem. I see you don't have any replies yet, so will see if I can get things started. Don't rev the engine to get it to move as that'll overheat & damage the clutches & fluid. Perform a line pressure test & post the pressure Number.
Use, borrow, or come by the inexpensive ELM scan tool & run diagnostic freeware FORScan on the viewing device of your choice as discussed here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-scantool.html as this inexpensive but powerful diagnostic combo can query All of the vehicle computer / controllers for trouble code clues, then post up All code Numbers, as they can help focus a trouble shoot. Some beginning thoughts for consideration, let us know what you find.

No reverse and no drive but will move in manual low is a classic symptom of a failed input sprag, this input sprag is located inside the transmission and will require the removal and rebuild of the transmission.
