My son has a 2004 F250 6.0. When I drive it or riding shotgun, I notice a vibration sound coming from the center/ right firewall area (turbo area) when accelerating out of the turn. it wont do it if you crawl, only if you give it a little gas. My son also noticed that his turbo, which whistles upon start up and doesn't stop, didn't sound right yesterday. It didn't make a sound until he was blocks away and it kicked in full force then.
Could this be the turbo making the vibration sound? Why would it do this accelerating out of a turn? If it is the turbo, is the rebuild expensive? The truck runs great with 206k miles. It does have an an after market turbo back exhaust. I forget the brand, but its a quality part that was professionally installed. We also had the turbo cleaned (vanes were stuck open with filth) about 6 months ago. Thanks!

Do you guys have a boost gauge or a way to monitor the boost? The vibration could be the mounting bolts, heat shield, or clamps that may come loose on the turbo, but also could be something else. As far as how the turbo is acting with sudden boosting, I would check with the cheapest thing first and check the VGT solenoid pigtail ($10-$15), the connector gets heat soaked pretty bad and over time can stop working properly. I was quoted $400-$500 for a reman turbo. If the turbo was cleaned do you happened to know if they replaced the unison ring? It could be starting to stick/seize.
Thanks for the info! We have Torque pro on a tablet, we just haven't used it in a while. Well check boost if we can get it going. Ill look into the other suggestions. I don't know if the mechanic replaced anything on the turbo, or just blasted it with cleaner. Thanks again!
I would download Forscan Lite and see what it tells ya. It's a better more in depth code reader and is a great monitor with more options than Torque Pro. Torque has a better monitoring screen for driving with basic pids. But Forscan has all the pids you will need on a 6.0.
