Body Mount Bushing Replacement

I bought new energy suspension bushings and new hardware

I plan to replace the bushings this weekend by jacking the cab a few inches

when I jack the cab, what do I need to be conserved about regarding binding the cab - meaning what could hold up the cab from moving up off the frame

will the steering wheel, clutch, brakes, gas pedal, 4x4 or gear shift keep the cab from moving up? Do I need to loosen anything?

My son and I did ours a couple of weeks ago.

Loosen all 4 mounts
Disconnect the clutch rod from the Z bar.

Have some replacement body shims on hand. Some of ours were not reusable. We used some big washers of equal thickness.

Be prepared to clean and rust treat the upper sleeves. We got new lowers from LMC, but couldn't find any replacement uppers.

Also be prepared to clean and rust treat the supports/perches

You also need a plan to get the lower retainers separated from the uppers.

I used an exhaust tip.

I'll post a picture when I get a chance.

I'm interested to see what you used to separate those.

I ran a piece of all thread through the pipe and put washers on opposite end followed by a nut. The all thread didn't want to thread into the bottom retainers very well, but I got enough grip to get them to break loose. I wasn't really concerned with boogering them up since I had new ones.

Tighten with wrench, tap with hammer, yank a little, then crank down a little more. Eventually they broke loose.

Also, the bottom bushings were a little thinner than stock, so I cut about 1/4 inch off of the top retainer sleeve so it wouldn't come through too far. It also takes out some of the mushroom. Once you get it apart you'll have a better understanding of what I mean.

I got the exhaust tip from the scrap pile of a shut down exhaust shop near me. I actually had to take the whole pipe home and cut off the tip.

I'll have to admit that video is where I got the idea.

If anyone needs the puller (pipe) PM me and I'll send it to you if you cover shipping.

Here it is somewhat assembled.

I did step the washers down better than this photo.

Here is a video where a guy makes a small and compact removal tool from a 3" exhaust pipe union.

I think I am going to make me one of these....
