I’m thinking about converting my rear brakes to disc brakes where is a good place to buy them from? And would I still need to run the proportioning valve with the rear disc brakes?

Since you say this is your first build , are you sure this is really something you need to do or really want to ?
The brakes on these old pickups really aren't bad at all if they're in top condition. not trying to tell you what your priority should be and I don't know your end game plan or budget but I do know how much a good restoration costs and how much work it is. personally brake upgrades are the last thing I can imagine on my radar. just say'in.
Search on here. There’s a lot of threads on it. I did it to my 76. Buy the caliper brackets. I think front Chevy rotors from 80s. Can’t remember what calipers I used. It’s a lot cheaper to piece together yourself verse buying a complete kit
