Picked up a 67 F100 for my wife, Try to get it road worthy and safe. I notice that the steering column is extremely far away from the dash to the point that its very uncomfortable. I am familiar with the dentsides and understand the cab is bigger I have a 73. My question is what is the correct factory distance ? truck was cobbled together so possibly wrong column, not sure. Is there a difference in lenght from dent sides to bumpsides ? Thanks in advance
For bump columns, there are three major lengths, manual, Bendix PS, and Saginaw PS. Does your 67 have PS now, or was it converted with a Saginaw PS box? Here is info on the column differences: https://www.fordification.com/tech/powersteering.htm https://www.fordification.com/tech/steering-column.htm
Or you column could be a dent Saginaw PS or manual steering column which is identified by having an emergency flasher switch on the column
Thanks for info, When i got truck it had a very worn out saginaw box in it. I think it might have come with a bendix box as it does have a small cooler in line that looks factory. If it had a bendix box would the bolt patter to the frame be the same ? I have since put a red head saginow box back in and all new king pins/ bushings and tie rod ends. so all works well just column seems too close to driver, Is there a measurement from base of dash to wheel i can reference ?
Your 73 would be the same. You must have a long Bendix column attached to a longer Saginaw box so that is why there isn't room. Find a shorter Saginaw column.
