Thanks for the Info! Ordered the same one. Going in and out of the garage had been noisy. I think these look much better than the stubbies and reception is still great. AntennaMastsRus - 21 Inch Black...
Is there any reason to spend money on an aftermarket short antenna instead of just cutting the factory antenna down? I am so tired of the SPOROIUNGINGIN when I enter my garage that I am planning on hacking about 5" off the top of my antenna. Some preliminary research says it's pretty simple to remove the ball off the tip and reinstall it on the new end of the antenna.

Some guys have reported that the spiral wire has come undone but other than that, don't see why you wouldn't do it.

i just went and did it. Took me 35 minutes. Currently waiting on the gorilla glue holding the ball on to dry so I can hit it with some paint. I guess I figured the ball would hold the spiral wire on but it got ground down at the end. Maybe I’ll put some epoxy around the end of the spiral to keep it from unraveling before I paint.
worst case it doesn’t work and I have to buy a stubby antenna.

I think myself and others have posted earlier in the thread that it can be done. I've done it before and I think I'm about to do it again today.
