I plan to remove my transmission through the opening in the floor (1952 F1); clean it up and replace the seals. Anyone know the approximate weight of the stock 3 speed transmission?
Column shift light duty trans? Had mine out today. I'd say 50 lbs. Feels like more! The only seals are on the shifter shafts and the output shaft. Where is yours leaking?

Yes, it’s a column shift light duty truck and the leak is around the shifter shafts. Once that cover is removed, how difficult is it to remove the shafts and seals?
You could just pull the side cover off with the trans in the truck, although getting it back on and getting the forks aligned could be a little tricky. Be sure to note which way the forks face as you take it off!
The levers are pinned to the shafts with straight pins, peened on both ends, and can be really tough to drive out. To prevent damaging the shafts or cover while pounding on them, I sacrificed a cheap chinese socket that I ground down to match the contours of the lever at the pin and used that as a support for the lever (fit over the end of the pin). Grind off one peened end of the pin (either end) and start wailing away.
Be aware new pins weren't available when I did mine. VanPelt Sales may have them now, VANPELT SALES LLC - your ford flathead source since 2006. I re-used mine, they're holding fine. Seal replacement is easy once the levers are off.
It did not feel heavy back in the day. When I bought Willard in 1977 he was running a 56 Nailhead Buick running thru the stock 3 speed. After pulling it to replace parts, I think 3 times, I found a HD three speed. That was the end of the problem. I was able to R & R it, break it down and put in used parts on hand and go "curb to curb" in just under 2 hours. I was a bit younger then. It does come up thru the opening with the trans cover removed very readily.
