Power steering pump just started puking it's guts up. It's been noisy since I got the truck this summer, and it is on my list to change anyway.
U-Pull Junk yards are far away for me. I'd like to just order a good replacement online if possible. I know about the recommended upgrade from the vans, and I'm not opposed to swapping things around a bit, but I don't want to drive an hour one way only to find that the yard doesn't have what I need.
Looking for a solid replacement recommendation that I can order online.
Any recommendations?
Also, Auto Zone and Advance are both within ten minutes of me. If that is the recommendation, I could grab one of those as well.
Not really worried about price. Just looking for the best bet, so I don't have to do it again any time soon.
The way to fly is with a Saginaw pump, but you cannot buy one new online that I am aware of since Cardone discontinued theirs about 10 or so years ago.
What I did on my Bronco was I found a used pump from an Econoline with the correct engine on eBay that was being offered by a wrecking yard. Then I emailed them and asked them how much extra to give me the bracket along with the pump. IIRC I got the whole thing for about $75.
Let me ask this question .....Is the bracket the main concern then? Would it be better to get a rebuilt pump for an Econoline, or would the old one sitting in the bone yard be a better bet?
I already understand that the lines would also have to be swapped and I would just purchase new.
You can determine what year donor you need by going through the years of E series vans from 92-96, 150 & up on rock auto.
Just did a conversion on a friends truck, the donor was a 96 E-250 with a 5.8 & when I looked last, rock had about 5 or so vendors (for a sag pump) for that year/model/engine.
He got a replacement pressure hose for the E van & everything was bolt in. He replaced the seals in JY unit & so far so good.
the way I quieted mine down in my 93 was by using marvel mystery oil , new fluid and a turkey baster. Turkey baster sucked out fluid down a ways, dumped in MMO and new fluid ran it for a week. repeated once a week for about a month. final time, filled with MMO went lock to lock about a dozen times ,sucked every thing out, put new fluid in it and been rocking it for a cpl years now. No noisier than anything else I can think of.
I've seen lots of posts that say that the 302 and 351 brackets will work, but I'm wondering if the 7.3 would also work. Can anyone confirm that it would work for my truck?
For the price, I would basically be buying the bracket and pulley. Then I'd just get a quality rebuilt pump and pressure line for the same van.
***Also, there is a local junk yard that is usually pretty helpful and friendly. I'll give them a call today to see if they have any 90's vans with the correct motor-AC configuration available.

OK so I'm not exactly following here. Did you leave the MMO in? Or just use it to temporarily lube the pump to quiet it down? Then fill with normal fluid?
