So I just replaced my wiper motor that I know is working in my 72 crewcab. I bench tested it through the methods described in Fordification and it worked great. I checked the wiper motor switch with a voltmeter and I'm getting good voltage on speed 1 and speed 2. I'm using the American Autowire Classic Upgrade kit which includes an updated wiper motor switch and connection for the wiper motor.
After installing the motor into my truck and re-wiring the connection plug the motor did nothing. I checked that the ACC was on from the ignition switch, and still nothing. I put a quick ground from the motor case to the cab and the motor worked great in both low and hi speed, and also my washer pump finally worked as well. So my question, does the wiper motor have a ground strap or wire that is mounted to it? Again, I'm using the American Autowire Classic Update wiring kit and there's no ground wire in the connector plug or a ground wire to the wiper motor case. Not sure where a good point on the motor case is to ground it, or if there's an actual strap or wire that bolts to it (I'll look in the two wire harnesses I have if there is one). Any information would be grand.
I just pulled my harness out of my 72 f250 4wd and also the wiper motor. The wiper motor did not have a grounding strap on it. It has a red, white, blue, and black wire leaving the motor to a plug which plugs straight into the back of the wiper switch and one orange with white stripe wire leaving. There is also a two prong plug from the back of the switch leaving with three wires, green, orange, and black. I cant remember what combination they are.

Thanks for letting me know. I ended up figuring out what the problem was. I didn't have the bolts for the plate the wiper motor mounts to tightened down well. They were just threaded so when I tightened the bolts, the wiper motor is working well. Now I just have to figure out why the washer pump wont work. Most likely a good ground for it.
Glad you figured it out. Good luck with the washer fluid.
Thanks. I most likely wont be too difficult to figure out. I'll ground the wiper motor case just to make sure I have a good ground and then clean off the area that I have the washer pump grounded again. It was painted over and I probably rushed it as I was getting it grounded. If that doesn't fix it, I'm not sure where to go as its a new pump and it's only two wires... 12V in and a ground out. May be the plug as well, who knows. I'll figure it out.
