Hard bed cover

Hi,
I just purchased a 2020 f250 lariat I am interested in getting some sort of hard bed cover for it. I looked at the gator efx trifold, the bakflip mx4, and the bakflip revolver x4. I was hoping to get some insight on what works well, I'm by no means partial to any of those I mentioned they are just ones I checked out.

I'm putting the Retrax Pro MX on mine when it comes in. https://retrax.com/retraxpro-mx

I've read this is the same hard top bed cover that comes from the factory too, but I've not confirmed that.

By the way, if you go with the Retrax, I've got a contact that will give you a pretty good discount along with free shipping.

I love my Diamondback cover but it all comes down to how you use the bed. I needed something dry and lockable but easy to remove occasionally. If I needed an open bed more frequently, I'd be looking elsewhere. I had a Bakflip VP on my last F150 and it was a nice cover, no complaints with it.

I have a BakFlip G2 on my 19 Lariat and am very pleased. I had the same on a 17 Tacoma and was equally pleased. If you want it completely dry, the bed corners near the cab will need silicon sealer (at least with a drop in bed liner), which is not a big deal. Install is an easy one man, one hour job. And if for some reason it had to come off to use the entire bed, very easy (but it will fold in four different places for partial use and fold all the way back to the cab for all but ~6 inches of use.

If you have some $$ to burn, the Pace Edward's Bedlocker is amazing. Comes with a remote and is automatic. The fold back and roll ups work, but IMO i dont like the look when they are opened.

There is also a Husky Fifth Wheel Hitch under there.

I put the RetraxPro on mine...Great Cover! Smooth opening and closing. You can lock it in any position, partially open/closed. Install was easy as well. Worth the money!

I really like to stay under 1k for this cover. Does anyone have the gator efx? Its half the money of the others, which I know isn't always a good thing.

Not sure if you're going to have a gooseneck or fifth wheel setup in the bed, but I have the Undercover SE on my '17 F250. Love it because it sits on top of the bed side rails and I've never had water in the bed of my last 4 trucks with one of these. They also come with locking assemblies, they can be removed very easily by two people (only weighs 57 lbs.) and can be hung on the wall when removed. I believe they also offer a fold up model as well, but I don't like the fold up model because they don't fold out of the way completely without standing up near the back glass or leaving a section folded down. I can also put almost 1000 lbs on top of it and not have any issues with it. And mine was priced with install at just over $900 including tax.

Check 'em out.

Keith

I have the Bakflip Mx4. I have a short bed, so cost was under the $1k mark and I love it. No leaks and it works perfect for my gooseneck trailer without having to flip up to the window. I also do like that I can flip it all the way to the window if I need the full use of the bed and I don’t have to remove it. I also like the low profile as it is practically level with the bed sides. Operation is easy as it is a simple cord pull and a flip of each segment. I had a soft cover on my last truck that was a folding cover, and I would not go back. It is a great cover that fit my needs.

Another vote for the Retrax Pro MX. I had one on the 2016 F-350 CCSB and will be putting one on the 2020 F-450 as well. Great cover, especially if towing a fifth wheel. Not as cheap as the others, but well built and solid in my experience. Just gotta save up the pennies and hope they have a holiday sale soon.

For what its worth, a friend of mine with F150 bought a Ford hard topper. It was very easy to install, color matched with small Ford emblems, and included brackets to hang on wall if you needed full access to bed.
