Early 1980 Certification Tag Decoding - NumberDummy?
Hi Folks,
I'm rebuilding an old 1980 F150 that appears to be a fairly early build at the Canadian truck plant. Although the "In Service" date is shown as August 28, 1980 there is a receipt in the paperwork with the truck that shows the original Ford dealer sent the truck out for a Permashine treatment in October of 1979. With a sequence number of only 0649, this truck would have been built pretty early on.
Anyway...there is no Certification Label on the cab where they usually are on the Bullnose trucks, but I do have this tag in the original Warranty Card that provides some of the info that would have been on the Certification Label/sticker on the cab.
The only digit I have not identified is the "3". NumberDummy or anybody else want to enlighten me?
IIRC the "3" is the body code and would designate a regular cab flareside. Does this match with what you have? A 4x4 flareside F150
Matt, yes it is exactly that. I dragged it out of the woods semi-locally for a something to do project.
It is a factory Flareside truck, but the bed was in pieces with some extra parts...
It was sold new in Kitchener, Ontario but spent some of its life in Newfoundland, and is now in NS. I have a bill of sale from a used car place in Newfoundland, I think back around 1995.
Anyway, it was cheap enough it was worth the risk to drag to the shop. It's going to take a lot of work to rehab, but it is just something to do. I don't plan on making it as pretty as the other truck. I want to use this one more like a truck...lol.
Looks like a good solid foundation to start with. Especially for an eastern truck.. Good score.
All things considered, it's not all that bad for being 40 or 41 years old now. The old mig welder is getting a workout, but its OK...it really is just something to do. I'm trying to do this one on the cheap, and scrounge as much as I can. I might even try to paint the stupid thing.
