Missing radiator heat shield?

Good evening. Is my 1977 F150 missing part of the radiator heat shields? I’ve seen the shields advertised for 73-79s with six attachment points at each the radiator support and the grille shell. My 77 has a short heat shield near each fender with three attachment points on each side and nothing near the hood latch on either side where there are three more holes in the radiator support aligned with three holes in the top of the grille shell.

just curious. Thanks for your time.

I bet someone trimmed the center sections out or they rotted out.

Here is what we've got on our 78.

Thank you John. That’s what I was suspecting but not really sure. Mac’s Auto Parts has them for $21 a pair so it’s time to get busy and order some up.

Have a good one!

What is the purpose? Do they go all the way to the fender connection?

They direct more air to the radiator is their main purpose.

It seems like 77 and up had shorter ones originally. Maybe they found out some air being forced up over the radiator would blow some of the heat down and out. I have 1 77 that I know is original and the two 79s I have are just like it. Shorter.

My 73 has two short pieces. There are no holes to mount the longer ones. I need to find some material to make replacements. They don't seem to be available from the parts outlets.

LMC lists them, they show the long ones as 73-77 and the short ones 73-79 cut to fit.

Dennis carpenter has a set with 73 part number D3TZ-8C122-PR and another set with 78 part number D8TZ-8C122-PR. The picture is the same for both.

If you can pattern off of yours just find some similar rubber like material.
