Are 1999.5-2003 PCM's interchangeable? so if it is for AD injectors and an automatic you can switch them between those years? And is E series and F series the same? Same pin out?
I have a 7.3 that the glowplug circuit of the PCM won't ground the GP relay, so no GP's. Oil temp was at ambient air temp so it should've turned on the GP's
I plugged in a 1997 PCM that I have and then the GP's worked, so it's definitely a PCM problem.
I knew there are quite a few different PCM's but I didn't know there were that many different PCM's, WOW!
Make me wonder what the difference is between all of them because the programming is flashed into each one, ???

99-01 F-series are similar and can often be swapped around. Same for ‘02-03. 99-01 and ‘02-03 are not interchangeable nor are Excursion or E-series with F-series.
But, as you found out - some PCM’s will ‘work’ to some extent.
I know I tried a 2000 PCM in a 2002 once, IIRC it started but the throttle didn't work.
Does anybody know if the pinout is the same between all of the different PCM's
So like I mentioned in my original post I plugged a 1997 PCM into this truck and the GP"s worked, I then cranked it for about 15 seconds and it wouldn't start. So I don't think it'll work

I do NOT believe they are the same, from my own memory and dissecting the PCM wiring diagrams from the Ford Service Manual and the differences between a 2000 MY and 2003 MY, but I could be wrong. @FordTruckNoob and I were comparing notes on this several months ago, so perhaps he can validate or discredit my thoughts on the PCM pinouts being different.

@Sous , you are correct. The pinouts are very different. In the manual, the 2000 PCM connector is C1027. 2003 is C175. I have attached the relevant connector diagrams.
The truck I'm working on is a 2000 F450 automatic with Federal emissions.
I know there is a reason for it but they sure have a lot of different PCM's for a 7.3
