It can make sense that a transmission rebuild could go bad after a few months. From what I have seen while watching transmissions being rebuilt it is not the cleanest process in the world and all it takes is a tiny 40 micron particle to mess up the works. That is why Ford has specified using the inline filter after transmission service in TSBs.
When transmissions are built at the factory they follow rigorous parts cleaning procedures and the fluid is filtered b4 it is put in the tranny.
While we're on the subject...'91 explorer with similar 4500rpm shift from first to second but only when truck has sat for awhile..and only the first or second time and it then goes away. It has been to the rebuild shop 6 times over the last month and they're having difficulty figuring it out. Ford mechanics thought it sounded like the intermediate servo piston??? HELP!
Well this tranny does not make any sence, If we drive it forward for a few feet, Then put in reverse it works ok, BUT if it sets a spell it will not go in reverse, BUT if it goes forward first then it will, Heck if I know, I think we made a bad buy, First it was no 4/wheel drive, I replaced them with manual locking hubs, Then the key ignition screwed up, Now the tranny, Whats next? I sure know,,, Bye Bye Explorer,,, I thought our Chev Blazer was a problem BUt this THANG beats it all to !@##$%$#@!
Those 10 cut ignition keys have been a problem since day 1, a bad design. I replace mine with the old 5 cut key cylinders. As far as the tranny goes if it has been looked at and they can't find the problem at a couple of shops, -get rid of the vehicle.

Just remember the filter if you have any tranny serviced. Ford, Chevy, Dodge, it doesn't matter what brand. If you really want a good filter setup use a remote mount setup with a full sized filter and put a Motorcraft or Purolator filter on it with a magnet on the side of the filter. You can buy a wrap around filter magnet at parts stores...
