Hey guys 86 Bronco i6 carbureted engine. Not receiving fuel from the main fuel pump. Truck won’t start unless gas can hooked up in engine bay. I’m thinking the sending unit is toast because it sat 10 years or the fuel rail may be blocked. Any suggestions or tips on how I may troubleshoot this without dropping the gas tank.
You can use compressed air and blow backwards through the fuel line to the tank, and see if you hear bubbling going on back there. Does it have dual tanks?
Ok truck sat 10+ years and you were trying to pull fuel from the tank but nothing is coming out?
I would not think twice and just replace the tank & sending unit because when you drop the tank to do the sender you will see the tank is trashed also.
Unless this rig will be used for a lot of hard off road trails I would go for the 38 gal. tank and sender to match.

Man I’m at a loss it’s now pulling alright from the tank after blowing through the lines. It’s not shutting down when it’s back up to temperature. I think the ignition coil is getting to hot.
I hope you drained all the old gas from the tank before you try and run the motor on it.
Old gas can gum up the valves and have them stick.
If the coil is getting hot that is not why the motor will not shut down now, you got something else going on.
I cant see what the temp would have to do with it running after up to temp.
Now this coil getting hot.
Is the truck still running the factory feed back system or did someone try and do a DSII swap?

I performed the DS2 swap and new carb swap. I got it running by taking out the hot idle spring and screwing it in more. Let’s see what this does for now but I also have an exhaust leak so there’s plenty note fun to be done. Thanks for al the feedback. I’ve removed the feedback system and will now move forward to delete smog. Should I keep the egr or air pump? I’m rambling now but am excited that the truck is finally running for extended periods of time.

You pulled out the feedback system might as well pull the EGR, and the ECU controlled the thematic (air pump) so might as well pull it also.
