Always thought that they looked really cheap, but someone was selling a brand new Peak for $15. I’m a sucker for a good deal, so I snagged it.
I hate the way you were supposed to tap in to the tail light OEM wiring with a snap lock, and it looks like it would be easier to utilize the trailer receptacle. Any reason why I wouldn’t do this? Also, any reason that I wouldn’t use the running lights instead of the the prescribed reverse lights? I would think that if you used the running lights, you could turn them on time that you wanted to take a look at your trailer or anything else that was behind you.
I suppose the suggested wiring would be the camera would only be energized when the vehicle is in reverse sending 12V to the backup lights and the camera. I would think if you add a manual switch you could tap any available 12V source.
I used a 12V switch tapped into 12V ignition on power source. I can turn the camera on as I choose and off if I want/need it off. Think about bright lights at night behind you etc.
