engine trouble

I have a 1991 Bronco eddie bauer with a 302, it has a knocking noise which seems to be getting worse. It knocks when i start it till i shut the truck off. I was wondering if maybe it was a stuck lifter or a rocker arm. I have always kept the oil changed and have always used the same kind of gas. I have listened to the motor with a stethascope because we thought maybe it was a rod but dont think it is. Other than the knocking noise the truck runs good. Any ideas would be appreciated .

How many miles do you have on the engine? Are you the original owner?

The truck has 106,000 miles and no im not the original owner i have had the truck for 6 yrs now.

I had to rebuild/replace my motor last year for symptoms very similar to yours. It started making a knocking sound then progressively got worse. I had 182000 miles on mine when it did it.

engine trouble

I am wanting to sell the truck but i know i cant sell it the way it is now, and i dont want to put alot of money into it just to sell it. So not sure what im going to do. Its a pain just to get to the valve covers and then its a guessing game not knowing exactly if its a lifter or a rocker arm. I called a mechanic and told him what it was doing he said it would cost me around $200 to fix it mostly paying for labor.
