I agree. It's very tough to find a slide in that isn't in DRW territory that is feature packed. Wet bath and no slides... sure. But add some space and a dry bath and man are they heavy...
I don't understand the cost of the slide in campers at all. The one you mentioned earlier at $43k is nuts! They have all the same things as a self-contained travel trailer but without a frame and axles yet they cost double what some of the new travel trailers cost.
Personally i like the 5th wheel just because you park the trailer and you can run to town and not brake camp. Second you can get a 5th wheel that has way more room than a slide in camper for almost the same money and less weight in the truck. Parking a 5er may be a challenge because they can be more than 30' long. Where a slide in is about 15'.
Lance campers are top of the line and man they think like it LOL I have a Montana but it's a 03. it's as old school as you can get. No fire place wine cellar or hot tub. i have sure seen some country with that thing. Wife and I have been to almost all 49 states. We have seen all of the great lakes,Galveston Tx. Mackinaw Island yt Niagara falls, New York City Disney world in Florida and back to California. Been to New Orleans Huston Tx. Wife and I have been to over 50 places the first 2 years we had our camper. Hoping to go to Waco Texas this December. I have had just about enough of California. Hope the wife likes it.
The advantage of the slide in camper is that when you are going through a small town and you see something you want to investigate, you can pull over in a parking space. With our 30 ft. camper, we normally keep on going because normally there is no place to park near what we want to investigate.
The advantage of a 5th wheel is that once you get to your destination, you have your home there, with much more room and comfort than with a slide in camper.
My plan was to purchase the slide in camper so I could stop when ever and where ever I wanted, and every second or third day stay in a motel.
So far I have not had that much of a problem parking my 34'er. I do have to walk sometimes but for the most part most of places have parking for RV's. I have been to a few small towns like Winslow Arizona you know the song. very small town. I was able to find a place to pull over and check it out. Mostly what I do is plan a trip. Look for interesting things to see in the area and explore without the RV. The wife and I don't camp we just travel. Lots to see in America. This is a beautiful country yet many people seem to think they need to go to another country and never see what is in our own back yard.
Lance is top of the line for slide in campers. Are you getting one that hangs off the back of the truck or one that fits the bed? Have you been to a RV show? I went to one once and like you wanted a slide in. It was sticker shock. LOL
We are like you, in that we like to travel all over. Places like Bodie Calif., Bishop, Mamath, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Utah, North and South Dakota, all are places that we enjoy visiting. To see all there is to see would take a lifetime just to see Utah.
Unfortunately, my wife and dog are having health issues, so our traveling has come to a halt for now. We don't like humidity, so the eastern states are not that much fun for us.
Wife and i want to check out the national parks in Utah on our next trip. My wife looks stuff up on Trip advisor their are lots of cool things and that site seems to be the best.
sorry your wife has health problems. Hope she gets well so you can take a longer trip. My wife developed a sever case of allergies. She gets a special shot once a month and she can't miss it so we can't go on our regular 3 month trips. I am trying to remember where. There is a place I believe New Mexico or Arizona where a asteroid hit the earth many years ago. it was truly something to see.

Yes, there are many beautiful places in Arizona and Utah. We have been to the Arizona meteorite impact two times. 50,000 years is just a blink of the eye in astronomical terms. Just recently an asteroid fly by earth lower than our communication satellites, which is a near miss. The asteroid that hit Arizona was the size of a volkswagen beetle. The one that just flew by was the size of a bus.
It would have made a much larger damaged area.
If you do not have a Jeep, you can rent one in Moab Utah, and enjoy the back country. I am a pilot, and have flown over the area many times. A vast beautiful scenic area.
Oh thats cool. I would love to rent a jeep and explore like that.
I also know you like cars. You will be amazed at the car museums we have seen across the country. Have you seen this one in Tacoma Wa? https://www.americascarmuseum.org/
Also if you ever get to Dearborn Mi you have to check out the Henry Ford Museum. https://www.thehenryford.org/visit/
Absolutely a must see for us Ford Fans. We also took the tour of the Rouge plant. Very cool to see F150's being made.
