Has anyone installed rear 4400 7 leaf springs on their F250?

Hi,

I have a 2004 F250 4x4 regular cab with a utility body and a Tommy gate. Bought truck new. Rebuilt the 5.4L when the timing guide broke because we like it so much.

Anyways, a leaf on the driver side is broken in half. In the pack right above the overload. Talked to shop and we both decided at this point the best course of action is to install two new rear leaf packs, new U bolts, new shackles and new spring plates.

I was looking at some websites like General Spring and there are 3000, 3600 and 4400 packs available, all under $200 a side! Are these springs any good? Ford wanted $600 per side. Any source for off the shelf USA made springs?

Truck sits very level right now, with factory leafs all around. Was speced out to the highest GVW when new I believe. Was thinking the HD leafs may lift it in the back, and I could add a zone Offroad mini leafs track bar and new u bolts up front.

what do you think? Truck rides nice now, but it’s been semi retired to specialized use at our company when a lift gate is needed, so I could care less. Thanks!

So I talked to general spring, and they are great to talk to, the gave me some advice. These springs were never factory, so my truck probably does have the top rate of about 3600. They also can lift the rear end up about 2". I that happens I will probably install a zone mini pack kit on the front end. They also ride rougher, but really bolt right in.

Going to get these leaf packs from general, along with new shackles (so all the rear bushings will be new), new 5/8" U bolts, new spring eye bolts and I will reuse the factory 2" blocks. I think these heavy springs will be beneficial for a truck with a tommy gate and a utility body. When its done I'll post back on how I like it!

I have a 2002 250 XLT crew cab 4WD and I am looking to change the rear leafs springs in the rear as well. Currently its a 4 pack plus the top spring. They are original and was a Northeast truck for 15 years. I am the original owner and I've got 210K miles on it. I had to replace the front springs (2 pack) about 6 years ago. I will also replace the springs, U bolts, shackles and bushings as they can't be any good now. I also had called General Springs and they were really knowledgeable. I just have to pick a time, buy a trolley jack, jack stands for this 3 ton beast. I might go one size up as I don't really want the back end raised to much. New springs after 18 years will look a bit different though. I like the prices and the product through General..

Ive got a set of 4400 I bought from ATS. They definitely hold the weight and empty the ride sucks. I’m hoping when I get my flatbed it helps the ride some otherwise I’ll be buying different springs again.

Hi,

ended up buying the 4400 springs from General, they are made in the USA by Stanley spring. I also bought their U bolts. These packs are the same thickness as my stock packs with add a leaf. About 3.25”

u bolts I ordered are round, 5/8” by 13” tall. Also ordered all new eye hardware. The guys at general knew which size I needed. Apparently these bolts are $40 each at ford.

I ordered new rear shackles and I bolt plates directly from ford, there good quality and same cost as aftermarket.

Will post some pictures when it’s all done! Should be done by Friday.

What spring code does your truck have? Check the sticker on passenger door frame for a two letter combination, other option is by weights on the sticker.

I have the 4400lb. springs on the back of my '02. I bought them because I carry a camper and they're great for that. They do ride very stiff when empty, but my truck is almost never empty. If I have to drive it any distance without a load, I let some air out of the tires, which helps a lot.

Did the 4400 springs eliminate the sag and help with sway? I’m thinking 4400 instead of air bags to help give some lift as well. X codes (for winch bumper) and the 4400lb rears (for truck camper) may be perfect for me, if I can handle the rough ride.

If the new springs raise the truck 2 inches, and your using 2 inch blocks, why not just eliminate the blocks and be at the right height?
Changing springs or even axles & springs will NOT change the sticker in the door with GVWR..and that's what DOT looks at. OK so your not a commercial truck and DOT probably don't look at you, Until your involved in an accident. Then the portable scales come out and it all goes downhill from there....I've seen it happen so many times.

Just as reference I had a couple year old set of X codes on the front of mine with the 4400 rears. With a 1” block I had 2.5” rake measuring from axle center to fender lip. Looked good and held the weight even better. Ride was a different story empty and still sucks now
