So last week I was driving down the interstate at about 4AM doing about 65mph, just coming back from a 900 mile round trip. All of a sudden, while I was in gear the car behaved as if it was in neutral, free-revving. I rolled off to an empty parking lot, when the truck is put in any of the drive gears it just free revs, same with reverse. The ECU DOES know that I'm putting the truck into "drive" or "reverse" but nothing happens. Truck starts and runs well, no CEL, it has ATF (pink and healthy).
I had the truck towed to my house and cannot work on it in front of my house and it doesn't fit in my garage. Before I send it over to a friend's house to be worked on I wanted to know what yall thought.
I'd guess something internally broke. I would check to make sure the cable isn't broke and that it is in fact putting it in gear. My next move would be to drop the pan and see if there is anything obvious. I'm assuming the fluid level is OK. @Mark Kovalsky would be more helpful.
I suspect when you drop the pan there will be evidence that you have been visited by evil. Maybe you get lucky and its just the torque converter, who knows....
If you're somewhere around the Houston area, I can recommend a good shop I actually trust. That's saying a lot too.
I'm in San Antonio, I usually do my own work but I cant do my excursion on my street and my workshop is taken over by my Porsche racecar and my Jaguar that I'm LS swapping. I have a friend who can do the work, I guess I will just have it towed to his shop. This sucks **** because I had decided to sell the Excursion and get an Escalade lol. Guess she's punishing me for the thought
