My 96 has alot of slackness in the driveline between reverse and drive. U-joints are good, so does anybody else experience this with there truck? And is there a quick fix for this?
Sounds like the tranny to me... but exactly what I couldn't tell you. Change the fluid if you want. Drive it 'til it dies. And start saving $$$ now for a rebuild.
Let me explain it a little better. The tranny runs out great. BUT when I put the truck in drive (say like backing out of a parking space) it takes just a sec longer than you would expect to engage. Computer maybe, modulator valve?
Just curious if anyone one else has had the same situation. I would call it a problem but it isn't, more like a inconvenience.
My 1990 does the same thing (101,000 miles). I never thought of it as a problem, but please post if the codes show something. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would show up on a code, but I could be wrong about that.
I don't mean to sound like a dumb a$$, LOL! But what codes? Just had it scanned for the engine light and it came back as O2 sensors.
Maybe this sounds like more of a prob than it is. I was thinkin it was probably normal with this particular tranny.
Its like you shift into DRIVE and it just takes like a second to get there. Intead of rite now! Not much of a pause but just enough that you pick up on it.
EEC-IV can spit out some codes related to the E4OD. Excessive torque converter slippage and MLPS out of range are two that come to mind. Anyway, what you describe is a "problem" in the sense that it is not normal, but that doesn't mean it won't go for another 50k miles.. or maybe 5 miles.
OK, I talked to the service manager at my local dealer today. He said that is common with the transmisson in my truck. He didn't say why, but that all of them are like what I've described. Glad to know it, thought maybe I needed to adjust something. Any way thanks for the replys. Now if I can find ONE person who has ACTUALLY done a mass air conversion on a 89 302 from a donor vehichle I'll be set.
