So I've heard mixed opinions regarding frequency of use for fuel additives. I use archoil fuel treatment, and have been using it every tank for the last year or 2. I'm hearing upon further research that using it every tank can actually cause injector issues? Is this true?
I have an 03 F250 with a late 04 motor, studded, not deleted.
Also have a 2000 Excursion 7.3 but have never put additive in this one. Is that OK?
I used Archoil in the oil and fuel when I first got the truck, then switched to just the fuel with PM-22. Quit using all additives 2 years ago and see no change in mpg or running quality.
A quality fuel additive will pay for itself in MPG savings alone not to include all the wear it will avoid. The ultra low sulfur diesel doesn't have enough lubricity for component longevity. Once the components inside the injector wear they have to be replaced.
I use Motorcraft PM-22-A Cetane Booster & Performance Improver in the summer and Motorcraft PM-23-A Anti-Gel & Performance Improver in the winter, both with good results. Good luck, Russ
You get no "points" (performance gains) for running a higher Cetane rating than the OEM calls out for a given diesel engine. If Pompous **** Fat Boy & His Goons (staff) in the White House stopped muckin with regulations (below), consumers would actually know and could depend on the cetane rating across the US.
Regulations serve a purpose ---> primarily to help consumers. Some states have imposed ATSM standards and for the cold country diesel truck owners (Cetane needs are higher) I'd go with a brand (e.g. Exxon) that is reasonably close to advertised / posted quality.
I've used Motorcraft pm22 from the first tank, it is the exact same product that Sta-bil sells, zero difference. I only replaced my injectors at 180k as preventative maintenance, 210k now.
Motor oils do not need any additives ever, if they do it means you need to fix something. I always referred to the additives aisle in the store as the snake oil isle.
Alright, I have 2 bottles of this archoil stuff that I'll go through (500 gallons of treatment lol) and then I might try the Motorcraft treatment. Has anyone else used this particular archoil kind or done a comparison? I guess I'll do some research on both.

Where did you get this information?

I've used Archoil 9100 for every oil change since I bought my truck. The one time I didn't use it, I noticed a difference (in the form of what felt like a cylinder was firing intermittently) almost immediately. Dumped a bottle in the crankcase and within an hour the problem went away. Yeah, I'm sure I could use new injectors at 285k but $50 per oil change is a whole lot easier to swallow than $1800 for injectors.
