NEED VIN HELP, looking at a purchase, 1963 F100 truck is a flare side but body tag says 381 which is a 1964 number not code 83 conventional cab flare side...??? any help would be appreciated
1963 F100 truck is a flareside but body tag says 381 which is a 1964 number not code 83 conventional cab Flareside?
1963 is unique, the BODY code only reflects the cab style: 66A = Uni Standard Cab // 66B = Uni Custom Cab // 81A = F series conventional standard cab // 81B = F series conventional Custom Cab.
1964/66 BODY code decodes to the seat upholstery material/color, so 381 is from a 1964/66. The VIN and other codes may not match either, unless the truck is a 1964, 1965 or 1966.
You won't see body styles 83 Flareside or 99 Styleside on a Warranty Plate. Plus 1961/66 doors interchange and the Warranty Plate on 1963/66 is riveted to the left door face below the latch.
People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors.
Thank you for your information. So I should not let the 381 body code worry me, the tittle and door tag vin match. Also the tittle say the owner is LLC? do you know what that means?Thank You

381 BODY code was not used in 1963, so either the door was replaced along with the Warranty Plate, or the truck is a 1964/65/66.
1961/64's look pretty much the same, the parking lamps are located within the grille. 1965/66 parking lamps are located in the upper grille panel.
1961/64's either have an I-6 or 292 V8. The I-6 intake/exhaust manifolds are located on the left (drivers side) of the engine.
The distributor on the 292 is behind the carburetor. 1965/66's use different I-6's and 352 V8. The I-6 intake/exhaust manifolds are located on the right (passenger side) of the engine.
352 has the distributor in front of the carburetor.
25 = Richmond VA Ford District Sales Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
1382 = Domestic Special Order number, truck ordered special by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."
** Back then, some states registered vehicles in the year they were first sold, not by their actual model year. This may be the reason it's registered as a 1963.
Hidden frame VIN stamped atop the right (passenger side) frame rail, partially under or ahead of the cab.
Compare the VIN on the title to the VIN on the Warranty Plate to the hidden frame VIN to see if they all match.
LLC = Limited Liability Company, has to do with a business, has nothing to do with the truck.
Truck is a FLARESIDE , 5 year old body off restoration, appears rust free with a 312 Thunderbird motor and 4 speed, Some days I thinks too much and other days I think I can never get a better deal.Stuck on a code B caribbean turquoise color, but open to other trucks.
Mine is a 65 styleside longbed custom cab with carribean turquoise,
built 352, 3on tree, 3.50-1 9 inch 31x 10.5 tires. Drums on all 4, new dual pot master cylinder and all new hydraulics (hard lines, hoses, cylinders).
I am a full time professional mechanic and this truck is well sorted and drives like new. No hands on the wheel at 90 mph.
Oh nevermind, I love this truck and will drive it till I die. Hopefully not while driving hands free at 90 mph. LoL
