I've had 3 batteries changed. One dealership said it was normal venting of the batteries, and after reading a thread on this I went to another dealer who replaced both batteries and both hold downs. Then about 6 months later one of the new batteries started to corrode and they replaced it again. Both batteries are good to go now after almost a year. A lot of people had issues with the batteries leaking or gassing which caused corrosion.
Same here. I went through 3 factory batteries in 20K miles as they continued to leak. I went aftermarket and never looked back. The same can be said with the crappy factory steering stabilizers.
I found the most massive buildup of corrosion on my positive terminal that I've ever seen. I mean it practically filled the red rubber cover!!!
I pulled everything apart, scraped and vacuumed off the bigger chunks, scrubbed everything with baking soda & water. Cleaned and repainted the hold-down bracket.
My battery is doing the same thing, leaking around the caps and corroding the hold down strap. The terminals are clean because I've kept them coated with fluid film. Truck is going in on the 24th to fix the water leaking into the cab issue I'm having and they're going to look at the battery also. My 2013 did the same thing and if I remember correctly I got two batteries replaced under warranty in the 6yrs I owned the truck because of leaking and or failing the load test. Maybe I should just switch to an AGM battery.
The OEM Motorcraft Group 750 CCA battery in our 2019 F-350 6.2 wasn’t corroded and didn’t leak, but it was steadily weakening. For example, morning voltage read as low as 12.2 V.
I replaced it with a NAPA Legend Group 65 850 CCA sealed wet-cell battery made by East Penn Deka. Out-the-door price with tax and exchange was $135.
Those darn things sure seem to weigh more than they used to… 🙁
