I would like to put a remote starter/keyless entry on my 94.
I have power locks all ready. Does this help?
Is it very difficult to install?
Has anyone done this?
What do you think is the best brand and how much do you think it will cost?
I put the keyless entry, power locks, and power windows on my '96 when I bought it. My brother bought the remote start for his truck and I helped him install that too so I am familiar with the install. To also do the remote start at the same time is fairly simple. I can not remember the specific brand but I feel certain most are similar. Mainly, you need to be able to solder the connections to the wires under your steering column. I would not feel comfortable doing it any other way. These are also some fairly big/heavy wires so you will need a pretty good solder iron. I think it took me all of a few hours and that was taking my time. The directions that came with the keyless entry was pretty decent and when you order they also provided you with a wiring diagram for your specific vehicle so you would know what wires to do.
I will check around the web for the place I bought mine and let you know if I find it. As I recall you can get the keyless entry and remote start for around $100 or so. It is not too expensive. Make sure you call them and confirm you will not need any additional pieces for the install. I think I needed another module or something to complete the package. My keyless entry was only like 49 bucks as I recall. The power lock kit was around 50 bucks and the power window kit was like $150. I was pretty happy to spend less than $300 bucks and get the whole package.
I think this is where I ordered my keyless entry from. Also, if you interested in doing an alarm....now would be the time as you can get the keyless entry, remote start and alarm kit all in one package. Time to install would be a little longer but much easier than if you decide to add one later. Just something to think about.
You know...I think I wondered that too. Call their tech line and they should be able to tell you. I can not remember for the life of me. They were very helpful as I recall.
