Converting my stock 1966 F100 with a column shift C4 over to power steering is very high on my list of priorities. Converting to front discs is also on my wish list, but a little further down since I just finished rebuilding the drum brakes in the front. I came across this ad in my local classifieds, and I wanted to know from the experts a) if this is a good deal, and b) is this truly all the parts I would need to convert to power steering? I feel like I read somewhere that I would also need the column, because using the 60s column would make the steering wheel sit an inch or two closer to your body.
Here’s the ad:Ford F100 disk brakes and power steering-
All the parts you need to convert a 65-72 Ford F100 to front disk brake and power steering
All parts are from a 1976 Ford f100
I emailed him for more information on exactly what parts are included, his response below. Should I go ahead and ****** this up? I just want to make sure I’m getting everything I need, and I won’t have to buy a bunch of other stuff to make this work. Is $500 a good deal?
more info from seller:
I have the spindles attached to I-beam the radios arms and the steering connections, In addition I have the PS steering box, with the oil cooler and a pump. The pump may have to be rebuilt, but I haven’t played with it much.
I have the brackets for brake lines. I cut the brake lines since the were not reliable.
If you had a manual transmission, then finding steering column of the right length will be very difficult. Sine you have automatic, it should be “plug and play"
$500 will not be the end of it, but it is a good start. I would go for it . Do you get rotors and calipers? Manual floor shift columns are the simplest to deal with, just cut to length, weld and install. The others not so much.
Thanks guys. I think I’ll make him an offer. So besides rotors and calipers, and the power steering pump brackets, what else should I confirm the kit includes?
thinking about it, if the parts are from a 74, even if it had the same engine I have, the ps pump bracket might be different anyway.
If the same engine, I suspect the PS pump bracket would be the same.
I think other important things are the bracket that connects the brake hoses to the hard lines (one for each side) and the proportioning valve. You can purchase the valve, but if you don't get the hose bracket my understanding is you would have to fabricate one. You could also get the booster and MC - but again probably want to buy new.
As a comparison, I recently got a similar setup for a 1979 F-150 to do a swap for my 1966. It was the front frame cut off behind the radius arms bracket. I didn't get the pump or bracket as the engine was different from mine, but I was able to get the column as both were 4-speed trans I paid $450, but didn't do much negotiating (other than adding more parts than originally included for that price) as I looked for a while before I found this one.

Different than what? If you didn't have PS to begin with, then what are they different from? As long as they will bolt on, that's all that matters unless you're also adding an AC compressor bracket. The Ford/TRW, Thompson pencil neck, and the later plastic reservoir C2 style pumps all have the same bolt pattern shaft length and shaft diameter, so swapping them out is pretty easy.
