I'm just watching mine at 270K. Not leaking yet.

You'd know it pulling or hauling heavy at WOT, if boost was not getting up to 17psi on a stock truck. You can view this as Manifold Gauge Pressure (MGP) on the Forscan or Forscan Lite app, or with a dedicated boost gauge.

If boost is good, and you can't see any soot on the up pipes at the collector, manifolds or firewall, I'd say leave it and run it.

I don't notice any soot on my firewall, but after reading all of the comments on the oem up-pipes leaking I did a little further investigation. I noticed some small black streaks near what they call the babies butt. So I can assume they are leaking, and that is probably what I would suggest. Just assume they are leaking and get some bellowed up-pipes when doing your transmission. There is a recent post from KC Turbos about checking for up-pipe leaks. Would be worth trying out....

NO better time besides when the cab is off to do it. For the minimal cost well worth it. One of the rare times Dorman or other aftermarket like XDP OK to use. ALL are leaking at least some at this point or about to. You know what will happen if you don’t...

I didn't think that mine were leaking, nothing obvious, but when I changed them as part of some necessary maintenance & future preventative maintenance, it was clear that they had been leaking as there was some soot around the baby's butt end of the pipes & they were a loose fit.....
Fitted the bellowed up pipes from Riffraff, great quality & fit.

Youll look for soot streaks on the pipes just below the collector. That black is not a shadow in the pic above.

I never see stock up-pipes that aren’t leaking.

The transmission being out doesn’t make up-pipes that much easier to me. I still want to pull the turbo and replace turbo and pedestal o-rings, DIY delete EBPV, crank WG adjuster all the way down, etc.

Riffraff’s bellowed up-pipes are the best. I no longer recommend Dorman or other carbon steel up-pipes. They fit and function fine, but will eventually rust out ‘up north’.

Here’s a little write-up I did awhile back. I’ve done lots and lots of up-pipes on these trucks.

Good luck and keep us posted!

I went with the OEM international ones but I hear the Dorman ones are adequate for the money. I’ve replaced them with the turbo installed. Not fun but possible.

I don't think he's pulling the cab. But if I had the trans out, rested assured I'd be installing new up pipes.
