I have a 63 mercury 3 ton. I've been trying to find a vin decoder to decode my vin but have been having no luck. This is the plate on the truck. Can anyone help?
Made in Ontario in Jan '66 as a '66
F700, 25000 GVWR
Engine code D is the FT 330 2v HD version, with the larger crank snout, distributor and oil pump drive as well as the other FT features.
The decoder says 352 but it's wrong. 352s were never installed in mediums.
That's all I can do as I do not possess a decoder ring.
Lots of fellow F700 owners in the Large Truck forum.
Does the VIN on that tag match the title? The VIN is also stamped on the top of the frame near the RF wheel. If the numbers don't match, then someone may have replaced the door and left the tag from the donor in place.
'63 or '66 you've landed in the wrong forum. Check those numbers and let me know if you want to get moved to Large Truck.
Threads merged. The further decode won't necessarily help you with brake parts. Do you have that brake apart? If so, what is the inside diameter of the drum and the width of the shoes? With that info, and the year and model, you should be able to find those parts through NAPA and other sources.
Also, see post 2. You thought this was a '63 Mercury? Does the VIN on that tag match the title?
Was wondering if I can get help deciding the vin on my truck.
Also if possible, need part number for passenger side drum brake wheel cylinder.
I'm not going to decode this, because all the info will be wrong if it's actually a 1963. If the truck turns out to be a 1966, then I will decode it.
1961/65 Canadian VIN's/Warranty Plates are completely different than 1966/68 Canadian VIN's/Warranty Plates that are the same as US trucks.
This VIN decodes to a 1966 F700 w/a 330 2V Heavy Duty FT engine assembled in Oakville Ontario Canada.
Doors are the same: 1961/66 F100/1100. Warranty Plate located on the left door face below the latch on 1963/66's.
The problem is: People replaced damaged left doors with used doors. 99.9% of the time, they failed to install the original Warranty Plates on the replaced doors.
IF this is a 1963 w/a 292 or 302/332 Y block V8, the distributor is behind the carburetor. FT engines have the distributor infrontof the carburetor.
Truck is registered/titled by its specific VIN. IS this the VIN on the trucks registration/title?
EDIT: See post #13.

as for the year I could be very wrong. the gentlemen I got the truck from said in his add it was a 63. I've had no luck trying to find this body style for 63. Its been 64 and up.
from what I can tell you is it's a 5 spd with a 2 spd rear end. The splitter is electric. It's got power brakes, manual steering.
The FE engine is a car and light truck engine introduced in '58. The FT is a truck version intro'd in '64, The distributor in front and the appearance as a '64 or newer would point to the door tag being correct. Do you have a title for it?

1961/66 F500 and larger series trucks look pretty much the same except for the specific year grilles, placement of the parking lamps and certain emblems.
1961/64 parking lamps are within the grille, 1965/66 parking lamps are located in the upper grille panel. 1961/62 use different hood side emblems than 1963/66.
1965/66 front hood ornament w/a V8 is different than 1961/64, 1965/66 with an I-6.
