Excursion Keys
I know they need to be programed. my 2000 7.3 has 2 keys and I want a third as backup. my 2002 v10 only has 1 key and I want at least 1 backup.
After some reading it seems I can program the 2000 7.3, but I will need additional assistance with the 2002 v10. Curious I saw that you can program with forscan, but do you need a special license or something?

StratTec 597602 H72PT Blank Transponder Ignition Key with Ford Logo for selected Ford, Lincoln & Mercury Vehicles
I had them cut and they work fine. I was unable to program them with Forscan. In order to program with Forscan, you need an extended license. You can get that for a month or two for free.
In my case, the only Key I have is already a copy so I’m not sure if that’s why programming failed or not. I’m hoping the dealership will be able to program them for me. I need a spare and one for a remote start install.
It will cost you an hour's labor (plus shop supplies(!)) to get it done at the dealership. Let's see, FREE vs $125-$150. Yeah really tough choice....
The product will tell you what keys are active and not and you can remove the ones that are no longer in use...
You can also program key fobs also...
I used this product for 2000 ford excursion (v10), and 2009 ford expedition, and 2013 jeep wrangler with zero issues.

even if you buy the license and the connector I think you’re still at or just below $100
I was kind of bummed that the less expensive Keys posted above took almost 2 weeks shipping. I ended up buying more expensive blanks but they’ll be here by the end of this week when the OBD two arrives.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I probably over paid and could have used the other cheaper option.... BUT these worked in both my 2000 7.3 and my 2002 v10
I got FORSCAN and the OBD2 connector they recommend. got the free extended license.
I also purchased a set of these Key Fobs:
They were very easy to program and worked great in both vehicles
I first went to the 2002 v10. hooked up the FORSCAN and saw the PATS module. I reviewed the procedure on the FORSCAN website. I selected erase all and program keys and was shocked to see that instead of asking me about the incode and outcode and all that, it told me that there was a 12 minute security delay??
so i waited....kept wiggling the mouse to make sure nothing went to sleep...and finally it said that the other keys were erased and insert 1st key for programing and cycle from run to off to run. and repeat. I did it for the first key, nothing happened, not sure what I was supposed to see happen but nothing occurred. I guess I was looking for the screen that said key programed, enter next key. It never happened. SO then hit ok thinking it would then have me cycle the key....but nope...FORSCAN just exited the module.
LOL
ok so i disconnect and reconnect and go back into PATS...see that I still have keys programed...select erase and program....wait another 12 minutes...same result.
So I go back in and see that now I have zero keys programed! select program...wait another 12 minutes....no idea if it worked...
go back in and I see I have 2 keys programed....
so now I am at least an hour into this 5 minute project and I decide that since I am now in possession of 2 programed keys (I started with only 1) that I would use the vehicle to program my 3rd key. Pulled up the youtube...put in first key, cycle, 2nd key, cycle, 3rd key, cycle.... turn off and used the 3rd key to start vehicle...it worked (I forgot to mention that in between the steps above I did test the keys to confirm if they would start the vehicle or not)
loaded FORSCAN again and opened PATS module, confirmed that there was in fact 3 keys loaded. Wow what an ordeal...LOL
So i guess FORSCAN did work...I was surprised by the "timed access pats requires the diagnostic tester to enter a runtime delay" wait 12 min deal and no confirmation of key being programed, no insert next key to be programed or exit.....etc
definitely if you have 2 keys (which i did not) use the vehicle to program your 3rd....
So after all that I plug into my 2000 7.3. Looking for PATS module....still looking....WTF there is no PATS module....HMMmmmm
I have 2 keys for this vehicle so I figure I will just use the vehicle to program the 3rd...but before i do I try the 3rd UNPROGRAMMED key and varoom...it starts
So I google and search and look around....best I can come up with is that my hydra PHP chip has disabled the PATS function?? I dunno could be.... I do know that the THEFT light always blinks for a little bit of time then goes away ever since I chipped it...never really bothered me, so i just ignore it...emailed gearhead, waiting to hear back...
I sent the log info to FORSCAN and asked them what they think...they responded that it would appear, from the log data, that the vehicle is not equipped with PATS...
so for the heck of it, i just did the procedure to program a 3rd key using the vehicle...i know it did nothing, but at least I feel like I programed the key..lol
so i wanted to write this up in case someone came across a similar issue...
My extended license has since expired. I think I’d have to pay for the extended license at this point. Not sure if I’ll try the delete all and program or not. If that fails, the truck will be stuck in the driveway. Mine is an 02 as well.
If it's any consolation, dealer techs have had to go through that same wait since PATS was introduced almost 25 years ago.
