GEM Module location
Where is the GEM Module on a 2004 Explorer Sport Trac? It's not behind the radio (the bracket is there but no Module). It's not in the passenger's side kick panel nor is it behind the glove box or behind the dash on the driver's side. I can't take it to a Ford dealer because I can't take it out of Park after starting it. The service people at my local Ford dealer are stumped. HELP!!!

I've read that on the SportTrac+Ranger mid~later model years, the GEM & InteriorFusePanel became a combined unit?
PS:
Here's a video of a troubleshoot on an F150 with a simular problem; it had a blown fuse which fed both the ShiftInterlock+GEM.

For starters, have you checked to make sure your brake lights work properly? If the brake pedal position switch is bad, or the wiring to it, or the power to it, the shift interlock will not release. You'll want to check fuses F2.9 (7.5A) and F2.15 (7.5), both in the Central Junction Box (CJB), which are associated with the shift interlock.
From the factory service manual I don't see any association between the GEM (which in your 2004 appears to be called the Vehicle Security Module) and the shift interlock.
The CJB is the one that's accessed with the driver's door open.
I suppose I should ask if the shift interlock not releasing is the reason you're asking about the GEM, or if you're fighting more than one issue and the shift interlock is preventing you from driving the truck to the dealer to get another issue diagnosed.

I just found the problem. It was a burned out 50A fuse under the hood in position# 1. Everything works fine now. I also learned you can change gears if you first put the tranny in neutral and then start the engine. All gears can then be engaged.

From the factory service manual, the GEM features have been incorporated in to the Central Security Module (CSM) in your 2004 Sport Trac. Also per the manual, it should be located above the glove box. Your 2004 Sport Trac does not have a GEM.
