So my father had a 1992 Ford F-250. Under the F-250 part on the badge displayed on the side of the truck, trucks of this gen usually have "XLT" or "Heavy Duty". His had "Custom" instead of those other ones. I literally can NOT find another truck like it that has the "Custom". I've been looking casually the last 9 years. Did they make these for just one year, or a small number each year of this generation? Please help because it's driving me nuts.
Custom isn't as fancy as it sounds if I remember correctly. It just meant that the truck was ordered with any non-standard item but not a kit itself i.e. xlt

So some of those trucks were XLT but they put Custom instead to distinguish it from a regular XLT? So basically a slightly nicer XLT was a Custom?
If I'm not mistaken, the Custom was one step up from the basic truck. The next step up was the XL, then came the XLT. But each package could have some options added or deleted. The first new truck I purchased was a 1974 F250, which had Custom badges. I believe the only options on it was a 390, auto tranny, and air conditioning. The next truck I purchased was a 1986 F250 4X4 which was badged XLT Lariat which was suposed to be the top of the line, but it had crank windows. Go figure.
First of all, the truck has been sitting for 9 years which explains the moss and how dirty it is. I've been wanting to get it up and running but life has been hectic since 2011. You can clearly see the F-250 Custom badge. Like I said, I've never, EVER seen another one in person and there was a time where years ago I would make a point to pay close attention. Just thought it was pretty unique. He got a hell of a deal on it because the original owner who bought it in 1992 didn't want a big diesel truck after all, so my dad picked it up in 1993 for a big discount. I was 5 at the time. Lots of memories in it. As far as I'm concerned there was never a better built work truck than this. I know it's highly subjective and I'm biased, but oh well.
"custom" was a plain jane no frills work truck. usually came with either radio delete, or just am radio.
rubber floor mat, no AC, hand crank windows, manual door locks, vinyl bench seat, steel wheels with hub caps, usually no spare tire or rear bumper either.
up to 91, custom was below the XL. starting with 92, custom badge was replaced with the XL badge.
although i have seen quite a few 92's with the custom badge instead of the XL badge.
