Cracked manifold

Okay I noticed I have a crack in the passenger side manifold. Not sure how long it has been there, I haven’t really noticed any lower boost numbers. What are the ramifications of using the truck until I can find the funds for this repair?

Possibly lower boost pressure, depending where the crack is there could be uncommon wear on items near the crack

A co worker had busted studs on his manifolds (2010 Raptor). When pulled by the shop, it was only leaking around the crack, not the broken studs on the manifold.

Your turbo isn't going to be getting full drive pressure, but to what extent it's affecting will be hard to say until it's fixed. My truck with leaking up pipes runs and drives fine, but I don't have half the power I should. Just know your EGT's will be higher and the turbo won't be working as efficiently.

yeah, I think I may have lost a lb or two of boost maybe, not really sure when it cracked. I have a good mechanic that will do the job for me. I think I am going to go with a Dorman manifold. I get the the manifold with hardware and gasket for around $100.

I would be spraying those manifold bolts with wd40 or a good oil for days before i tried cranking on them. Its a pain job as it is, let alone if bolts start snapping.

I agree, I would spray them every day until they came loose. Breaking them is no fun. Also spray penetrating oil in-between the head and manifold too.

Machine the manifold to make it flat. They are pretty bad.

okay well I guess will go with the OEM one then. I don’t want it leaking after it’s on and I don’t want to try and find someone to machine a new part.

i will for sure soak the bolts! They are rusty rusty and I wouldn’t be surprised if they will need cut to get the manifold off.

I bought the Dorman manifolds in a pinch as my originals were warped. After comparing the old vs new I decided to flatten mine. WARNING: I did it the ghetto way but it works and if you consider time for shipping I could go at it a long time. Basically my fab table is flat and big enough to clamp a long strip of sand paper on (120 grit) and make a few passes on the manifold before swapping out the strip. I checked the manifold often and was using a gasket so it had to be good but not perfect machine fit. Each manifold took about an hour of this work. Maybe an hour and a half if I used the Dorman manifolds.

A while back there was a debate on the subject of gasket or no gasket. I went with gaskets.

yeah the more reading I didn’t it seems gaskets are best once the factory manifolds have been removed.

is the gasket from the manifold to the up pipe just a donut gasket and listed as “up pipe gasket”?

Yes, nows a great time to do bellowed up pipes too. That'll eliminate the donut gaskets and hopefully any other leaks.
