Is My Intake Manifold Cracked?

Hey guys it's me again! Is it cracked? Or crushed in?

It looks fine except for all the grease and dirt you are collecting on it! Would be very, very tough to crack that part. You would have to drive over it with your truck...

Correct...

But if your truck is as old as mine, chances are those boots are soggier and looser than you'd believe. I replaced mine with some boots and clamps from Clay when I installed my 38R last Christmas.

The intake manifold boots were so loose and soggy (wouldn't stay in place if I tried to tighten them), it was no wonder they were covered in oil, my mileage sucked, and boost seemed low. While the 38R played a role, the boots and clamps from Clay made sure the intake manifold would stay in place and not leak precious boost.

Have you checked closer at the turbo EBPV rod? If I were a betting man I would say you are leaking excessively from this area. See if you can get a light in this area and take a pic.

Where would that be located sir? It also looks like I have a new spider coming thanks to my really cool wife. Even though my original is not cracked, she ordered me a new AFE Bladerunner for some bling! I also have some RiffRaff boots on the way! Anything I should look for while doing the swap?

Why does it look like your MAP hose isn't plugged in at the first pic?

I would have guessed it was because you had some redneck engineered excuse for a clamp and you let some idiot beat on your CAC tubes with a hammer to try and make them round again.

EBPV can be seen from the passenger side if you look under (or hold a camera under) the spider. Oily boots are normal though, so don't worry too much about that.

Here's what it looks like dirty

And if you clean it up a little, you can actually see there is a rod coming out of that thing

I would see if Clay can add the Plenum inserts to the order especially why u are there. They reinforce the plenum when you clamp down on the boots.

if you use a squirt bottle, put a little dish soap in it, it will make bubbles, then you'll know

I unplugged it with plans to take the spider off, thinking at the time it looked cracked. I ordered the plenum inserts as well!

I I'll climb in there and see if I can't find that tube. Thank you!

Wonder who that guy was? LOL!

It held perfectly till I upgraded to some boots and clamps from Clay.

It looks like it may be leaking a little bit. I had the pedestal o-rings changed last year, so it may possibly be from then? It also looks like they put silicone on the turbo flange where the spider clamps to it. Is the o-ring by itself not good enough? Any thoughts? I am installing a new spider and boots, so now would definitely be the time to fix what I need to. Have I ever mentioned that I live this forum!! I feel like family!

I see you went the same route I did....good call!

Word to the wise on the AFE Bladerunner, you'll have to trim the boots for it to properly fit and tighten. I have the CFM+ intake manifold and it doesn't quite fit the way it should and needs some trimming around the top of the boots for a good fit.

You will, however, feel the boost you've been missing between the boots and the Bladerunner you have.

Keep us posted on the details!

depending on climate conditions in Arlington, TX, you can "gut" the pedestal or buy a "blank" pedestal, from you know who.
