Steering column problems

Does anyone have a diagram of a 1975 automatic steering column? I can not figure out what holds the tension on the shifter collar to keep it seated in the shift lever at the bottom. Need to know what I am missing or what I’m doing wrong. Thanks for the help.

Whats the problem with your shift lever ?

It will not shift. It just moves freely. The collar is attached to the shaft but the shaft wont lock into the the shifter lever at the bottom.

that lever slides over a place like a key way to keep it in position, its welded on , they can shear and then lever movers freely an will not shift properly

Thank you I figured that out, but the spring keeps popping it back up. So am I putting the spring in the wrong position?

I am unsure of exact problem , are you trying to put all back together and the top collar is spring up ? As I was thinking the bottom cant move up without the top collar locking in position , which are two retaining bolts that have flat square shape heads that have to go in a certain position to hold it in place when the nuts are installed , or is there another issue ?
