Heat riser question

Just double checking. Is this the open position of the heat riser. I wired it to this position. I am not sure if my heat riser ever opens up.

I just painted the intake manifold where the paint had been burned off. And I'd rather the hot gasses go thru the crossover instead of thru the intake. Since I don't drive my truck in cold weather I feel I don't need the heat riser. The riser was taken out of my 55 by a PO and it runs Ok.

Yes, down is in the open position. I rotated my image to put it more in line with how it is on the engine.

Painted the intake? Are you getting it ready for something? An upcoming event of some kind?

I have thought of doing the same thing Abe. I sometimes wonder if it even works correctly. I will have to check it one of these days after it heats up. By the way......that coil end is still yellow! I would have thought you would have painted it black by now! LOL

Yes. My sister is hosting a family reunion. She lives about 165 miles away in southern Lancaster County. There are about 65 relatives coming, cousins and their kids. I've got 24 cousins on that side of the family. We are grandchildren of the Grandpa I bought my truck from. All our uncle's and aunt's have died. My cousins haven't seen my truck in years. And they've never seen my engine painted and detailed so I'm freshening it up.

LOL! Look up mustard top coils. They are classic. Now they didn't come out until 1957 so our trucks didn't come from the factory with them but they are period correct.
