Key Fob Range
Key Fob Range
Hello Ford Community,
I recently acquired a 2001 Ford F-150 Lariat Super Crew. It did not have the key fobs but I had some spare older Ford ones laying around. I was able to program them for the vehicle but they only work if you are inside the truck. I either have to place them as close to the ignition as possible or hold them to my head (apparently this helps increase the transmission distance). I have tried changing the batteries and even using new aftermarket ones but had the same issue. I feel like there is an antenna or receiver that is not functioning properly but I cannot find any info regarding this.
Any suggestions/directions are greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

I would guess your FOB is CLOSE, but not the correct model. I had a 2001 and a 2002 and the range was at least 25 ft.
GOOGLE the FOB to get a picture and see if yours is exactly like it......... They only cost $10.

Hello,
First off, thank you for your suggestion and reply. I have tried 7 different fobs, 4 have been new ones purchased from AutoZone and they reacted exactly the same as the Ford OEM ones. I think there is something wrong with the RAP or the RAP antenna if it actually has one. I'm not really sure.

OK.......... so you have narrowed it down... I missed the part about trying the NEW FOB and it didnt work..
The FOB receiver is a small BOX located above the steering column and brake pedal... on the firewall area... If you have a pushbutton pad on the door, then it has a CODE and that code is written on the box... Maybe check contacts, cable pins, etc..
looks like this...
