My son got me an extra (3rd) key for xmas and after following tech reps advice on how to calibrate key, I get a Starting System Fault on display after truck is running, Didnt drive it to see what happens, and I treid starting couple times. Tech rep told me to put in each stock key turn it on with out starting it wait about 3 seconds, then put in new key and and do the same, and it will work..
Any thoughts and has any one experienced this, He did not purchase this key thru ford but a local locksmith.
The 2011 Super Duty is the first Ford vehicle released with a new key strategy. These new keys utilize the 80-bit transponder technology and are stamped with "SA" or "HA" on the key blade. Prior model year keys are not compatible. If the vehicle is equipped with Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT), only IKTs should be added as additional keys. Standard PATS keys will program, but will also generate a "Starting System Fault" in the message center and set a DTC B10D7:05 every time they are used.
NOTE: The issue with using the standard PATS keys (non-IKT) was supposed to be addressed by now, but maybe they have not. I will look into it and report back if I find anything further...
I got a key like you made & we programmed it - I use it for a spare - Mine generates the message also - but no other problem... I have been using it for a year or so without issue...
I have been planning on getting a spare key in case I would accidently lock the factory key in the truck or lose it when on the road. Question? Does the message go away when you remove the non-factory key and go back to using the factory key? Mine would be an emergency key only and I could care less about the message if the truck would start and get me home. Thanks
On edit: My truck is a 2012 and the key is stamped SA.

Message is temporary - you might miss it if not looking. - no long term issues at all - get one made & don't worry. Mine did cost about $30 at dealer & we programmed it using the two originals like manual says.
