Hi all
Looking for some advice on wheels and tyres ( thats right TYRES not tires) Queens English.. or Australian....
I have a 69 ranger 360 aka 390..
Looking to lower with dream beams ( or similar) and hangers so nothing outrageous.. 3 and 4 inch respectively
I have drums so will go discs of the willwood variety, but was thinking of changing bolt pitch to 114mm ( mustang) to get a wider variety of wheels..
So 2 questions.. Has this been done before and what wheel width and offset am I needing if I’m looking at 19s or 20’s
cheers

Welcome!

Most commonly people swap in Crown Vic front ends and 8.8 rears from same car. A similar platform is the Lincoln Town Car from the same era (90s). It looks like these were not made by Ford Australia, but perhaps you could do a similar swap from a LTD or Fairlane from other late 90s. Maybe Falcon also from those years?

Swapping in the front end gives you a better front end, rack and pinion steering. Swapping in the 8.8 gives you limited slip, or the ability to get limited slip easily. This would also get you the bolt circle you are looking for in wheels.

There just tons of these cars made in North America and the wrecking yards are full of them. Served as a lot of police cars and taxis. I am sure you could easily get the parts shipped over too you, but cost may be prohibitive...

Thanks. There may be a Holden (GM) front end that might work as the falc / ltd platform was very different.. dimensionally as well as structurally.
BUt putting a GM front end under the blue oval doesn’t sit right. Not that I’m a purist, but I’d like to stick to brand
I have a 9 inch Rear with factory power brakes and steering.. I’m looking at 1974 discs. But I have an opportunity to get willwoods fairly cheap.. 13” discs would look mad...but would need wheels to get it out of the shop
ANy thought on wheels sizes and offsets ?
cheers

My '69 has a lowering kit from DJM, which has the Dream Beams on front and shackles in the rear. Dropped it 3" in front and 4" in rear.
I have 20X8 wheels in front and 20X10 wheels in the rear. I have disc brakes on front and wheels fit without any issue. I still have the original drum brakes in the rear and used 1" spacers to move the wheel out from the inside of the fender and to center it in the wheel well.

Hi .... That’s crazy nice... That’s exactly what I’m looking to do..
Do you know what back space / offset of your wheels.... I know the 20s are usually zero for offset..
I’m looking at American racing Rodder wheels .. or similar... But cant get them in the 5x5.5... hence i was looking to change to mustang pitch diameter 114.3?

Doesnt look like that’s a thing... trying also to buy blanks and have them cut to 5x5.5. But its gets exe..

No, simply installed the shackles that came with the DJM lowering kit.
