Questions on Wheels
This may seem like a newbie line of questions, but I'm trying to get the information right first, so I don't have to re-do the job later.
Background: I've got a spare set of stock 96 Explorer rims that I thought would look good on the 69 ranger.. I bet you see where this is going already.. They didn't fit the bolt circle..
So here goes with the questions.
What is the correct Bolt Circle, and rear spacing, to buy new wheels for the drum brake set up on the 69?
Second question, did these circle and spacing sizes run on just the 67-72 F100's, or did Ford produce other years with the same measurements? Up to 76, 86, 96?
And the last one, I want to upgrade to disks eventually, but would like to get replacements for the "beat to heck" steel wheels that are on the truck right now. If I buy new wheels for the drum set up, will they work with a disk conversion as long as I pull the I-beams and equipment from a donor truck?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Can't really help you on back spacing but if you have the orig wheels flip one over so your looking at the back, put a straight something across the wheel and measure from the mounting surface to the straight piece and that measurement is your back spacing.
If the wheels you get will work on the drums they will more than likely work on discs because discs are typicly smaller than drums.
Btw the Explorer rims didn't work because they use a lighter axle that is more simmilar to a car axle that a truck axle so it has a smaller spacing.
Hope this helped you.
If you go with Aftermarket wheels, then you'll most likely be alright for disc later on, as they are usually made for the later trucks with disc's. However, stock Ford rims for drums are too small to fit over disc brakes. They get stuck on the Caliper, since it pokes out a couple of inches from the rotor. I found this out when trying to put wheels from my dads '64 on my '84. I just zipped it on with the impact-wrench, and noticed the wheel wouldn't budge, once I had already put it on.
mk,
good call on the 80-82 F-100's, I've always wondered why when I read catalogs, they said the brake rotor's fit '73-9? exept 80-82. Now I know why! Thanks man.
