Weird Aerodynamics

Obligatory statement: I know it’s a 4 ton brick.

That out of the way, I am thoroughly enjoying my 2020 SD. It’s my first HD truck and my first diesel. I am starting to learn it and “bond” with the machine if you will. For instance I learned that when you fill up in the back of the truck Pilot/Flying J with the big rigs, they put a credit card hold on $500 instead of the usual $1 from the front side pumps. Note to self. But i digress.

The huge mirrors are certainly awesome for towing and are some bug killing machines, but one weird aero characteristic is unlike any vehicle I’ve ever owned.

My driver and passenger front door WINDOWS are some bug smashers as well. Something about the aero around the A pillar and/or through the twin beams of the mirror brackets is smashing bugs like crazy on my side windows. I don’t hear any whistling or air gaps or other turbulence. The truck is solid and quiet. But I’ve never experienced having to remove bugs from by side windows before.

Interesting

Get some Good wax for those Mirrors and window RainX to help get the bug guts off

My local Walmart was out of Ceramic wax when I was there yesterday

Ditto on the Rain-X. I do all windows and sunroof with Rain-X. Make keeping them clean much easier and in the cold 11 months of the year, the hard water scrapes off a lot easier.

I realize with all that torque from the 6.7 its difficult not to break the rear end loose but maybe stop drifting through the corners

I have the 6.2 gas and have not been able to get the bugs to smash against the side window.

flying j/pilot has an a RV advantage card so you can swipe at the truck pumps.

I also have a fuel card from TDS logistics that you can use the truck pumps at not only pilot/flyJ but most all truck stops.

Get one, save some time and enjoy some good fuel discounts.
