F600 bucket decode

Old farm, bucket truck. Trying to see how it was originally as I'd like to restore it and have some occasionally goofy things that seem to be going on.

VIN:
F60DVAG1954
F60 - 2WD F600 Gas
"D" 330 HD
"VA" Kentucky Truck
"G1" 1978 model made Sep 77
954th one off the line

176 - Wheelbase
S Color code which if the same for 350 is Midnight Blue
F604 - which I believe is 2WD gas?
AAS - Interior style which I have no clue about
A - 4 Speed Manual
64 - for the axle but don't know what that means
J - which should be Power steering?
16000 GVWR
47 - again, no clue

Anyone have any insight?

Thanks in advance

Well, you got all the easy ones!

Your transmission is probably an NP435.

Is the rear axle a two speed? It is probably a 15,000 lb rated Eaton.

Eatons have id info stamped into the carrier above the pinion to the left of the two speed motor, including ratio info. They also have info stamped into the housing on the driver side top. It's a lousy job to get under there to scrape the dirt etc away to try to read them. I suggest parking over a low spot on a rainy day to help make it a more pleasant experience!

I bet that bucket is plenty handy at times. Other times..... to bad they don't pop off with a couple of these:

[QUOTE=85e150;19467746]

I don't know if it's a two speed or not, I'll have to get under it sometime and see. I originally bought it to help with tree trimming and putting a new roof on but fell in love with these trucks in the process. Right now I'm fighting the hydroboost and trying to undo some quick farm fixes from the previous owners. The hydraulic hoses weren't cheap but all the work I have into it just makes me love it more. I'm just trying to improve my knowledge of these trucks to hopefully get it road worthy and I think I'm to the point of making it look nice in the process. Thanks for the help so far, now I have to educate myself on those axles.

A switch on the shifter with a red button is the first clue to a 2 speed.

Second is a big add-on device on the pumpkin on the driver side.

You will figure it out shortly.

Good luck!

NumberDummy, I was hoping like a kid waiting on Santa that you'd come across this thread and I greatly appreciate your time. Honestly, everything that I did get right on that on that VIN came from a couple hours of scouring anything with a 78 F600 or similar and reading your decodes. Thanks, I greatly appreciate it!
