All done, road test went well, until I hit the hot tune & the boost spiked, popping a hose off.......hose back on & clamp tight, testing resumed, ebpv is working again & not spewing oil, turbo spools quicker with the billet wheel, I'm back in love with my truck all over again!
My intermittent smoke issues are gone too, I think it was the amount of end play in the turbo.
That's pretty satisfying. What did you need to do to get your ebpv working/not leaking? Did you do a rebuild? I'm contemplating this vs gutting it, but I think I want the option to use it as an exhaust brake in the future.

I got the rebuild kit from Diesel O rings, Clay was out of stock when I placed my order with Riffraff, the ebpv hasn't been working for a while, the truck would go onto fast idle in cold weather but couldn't hear the exhaust note change & the deceleration tune wasn't working. The kit was simple enough to fit, the cylinder bore was perfect, but the seal had gone hard on the old piston & it literally fell out when I removed the plug. I really like having it as an exhaust brake, it's one of the reasons that I didn't upgrade to a different turbo.
Pulled our 12k 5th wheel just over 100 miles this morning, egts are consistently around 100-150° cooler than before, boost is 5-10 psi higher, only had to lift slightly on a steep incline once when egt reached 1250°. Prior to doing the maintenance I would be constantly watching the egt gauge on hills, fuel consumption is slightly better but would have improved more if I'd had to ease off the skinny pedal more often......
One thing of note is that another buzz test still shows 2 & 4 as being weak.......can't understand why, might do a perdel check later, we're having a week's holiday so time to relax.
Perdels are a quantitative measurement of CCT. Was it the drivers side UVCH that was loose?
If you have to lift the throttle to stay under 1250* in a tow tune, you could use better tuning.
Yes it was the driver's side, new oem gasket & UVCH installed, the rest of the loom & pins are good too.
I'm running with a 60hp tune, it's just the canned tune from DP, I don't know if it would get much higher if I didn't lift, just erring on the side of caution.....
I've considered going to a Hydra but can't find anyone else who offers the decel tune.....
There are other ways to do that. Other tuners use coast clutch and TC lockup on tow tunes. A switch that activates EBPV when brakes are applied makes this a hands-off operation while driving.
