I have a 1996 Econoline 150 conversion van that I would like to convert to a 4x4. I found a 1993 F-150 with a blown 5.0 in it. I have a strong 5.8 in my van that I would keep. Is it possible to use the running gear out of the 1993 F-150 to put under my van? I am thinking both front and back axles as well as the transfer and tranny too.
Rear axle is the same 8.8 model but the spring perches are slightly wider on the van chassis so the pickup axle isn't a direct bolt-in. If both vehicles have the same gear ratio there's no point touching the rear end but if not you have to change ratios in the front pumpkin that is going in or your existing rear axle.
Many many years ago I saw an E150 with what I'm sure was an dana 44 TTB from an F150 under it, I didn't get more than a passing glance at it though so I don't know many details but it was pretty tidy and had coil springs(not leafs).. the van didn't sit much higher than stock.
You will want to check what trans is in the pickup, it was possible to find the 4R70w, E4OD and even an AOD behind a 5.0 but the 5.8 trucks were 99% E4OD exclusive with the other option being the C6.
