You picked up a truck with a noisy motor so now you know why, it has a oil and sluge problems and the motor is toast for some reason only the past owners knows why.

Yup looks like I will replace the engine.

I bought it cheap on a gamble it might be an easy fix.

Even with a rebuilt, I will still come out ahead.

Terrible. I will give you 5k USD just to help you out, lol.

I think you did just fine. I would have bought that truck and been fine with putting a motor in it. last owner probably just did not maintain it.

That is a clean looking truck and well worth a new motor

If you do something like this again in the future before you start putting money into the existing motor get it warmed up and remove the oil fill cap and have someone stand on the brakes put it in gear and give it some gas (power brake it). If you see oil vapor come out of the oil cap the motor is toast and needs a complete rebuild, its called blow by. When I started working on motors in the 60s it's the first thing we looked at but then they started sucking it out and burning it through the PCV system so everyone stopped looking at it but it's a simple test that holds true with any gas engine on matter how much fancy crap they hang on it.
