So a few time in the past I've been driving and had the 2001 7.3 LTD big down like starving for fuel. Pull over, and shut it off. Check fuel, oil etc. Start it to see what's up and runs perfectly. This week it did it again, except now when I restart it the smooth idle is great until I give it any throttle when in gear. I pulled the passenger side valve cover because after it idles and warms up the pass side exhaust manifold is significantly cooler. I figured while in there checking things out I would do the 50cent mod. Well apparently I have an updated harness cuz a quarter doesn't fit. Dbl cheked for chaffing and looked good to me, well at least at 1045 at night. Buttoned it back up. Went for a drive and it was good. For about 45 minutes. Now it bogs down but comes back online in its own. Buz test was good per forscan. Checked ohms from 42pin connector on driver's side valve cover. All good. So dug in and checked wiring from IDM female harness. Almost everything perfect. The one anomaly was pin 26 to 24 which had connectivity. So now it's back to the passenger side valve cover harness for a thorough examination in the daylight. So after all that my question is, if/when I find the short, can I just heat it it or will the whole harness need to be replaced?
Sounds like what I just when through. Ended up being bad IDM got replaced. Mechanic is now waiting on harness buzz test was good individually then when truck is on it shows injector #7failure #5 and #3. No power rough idle.
